Ohayou 👋🏿, I’m Gaëtan Nkamegue, a Montreal-based Product Designer. I love funneling user and business needs into great digital experiences as well as helping organizations craft the(ir) future.

B.A. in industrial design.

2014-2018

I studied at the University of Montreal, an experience from which came a handful of fun projects in a myriad of fields: transportation, sports goods, graphic design, VR, etc. I gravitated towards interaction design by the later years of the program which led to me working on my favorite project to date (yes, to date)…

Pretty Good Network, or PiGeoN.

2017-2018

Revisiting identity management through trust networks. This project has been fueling my interest in the digital space and my motivation to continue pursuing a career in UX/UI where I would learn how to solve for real needs in complex and technical environments.

Joined Osedea, a digital agency.

2018-2019

They opened the door for me to begin my career’s journey and for that I will be forever grateful 🙏🏿. I worked on a slew of fun projects, ranging from marketing sites, to mobile apps, and web apps. It’s the latter I grew enamored with.

After a year, I had come to measure the success of my output through our clients’ feedback more so than the actual end-users’. I had grown comfortable with executing on tasks, not so much with making sure I was building the right thing.

Joined GSoft, a product company.

2019-Today

I was offered a position to work on the Sharegate line of products where I would help build the future of collaborative governance in the Azure cost management and Teams management spaces for IT Administrators.

Because I yearned for a deeper relationship with end-users, and because I wanted to hone my craft in Product design, the decision to jump on the opportunity was a no-brainer.

Today?

A day in the life

I’ve spent the last 2 years as a contributing member in the design system team, building up and documenting assets to support our designers and developers in releasing value more quickly.

I’ve been accountable for the leading of many initiatives & epics from the research to the handoff (or handshake) phases in close collaboration with product owners, UX writers, developers, designers, marketers, and strategists.

Post-handoff, I’ve also dug down into data to assess the success of our efforts and course correct if need be. I’ve also been very implicated in the research & design communities to partake in the sharing of knowledge.

Outside of work, you also would’ve found me to be a regular attendee at MTL’s local design conferences (pre-Covid); I’ve given a talk on Sketch with Montreal Interactive and co-hosted a panel discussion with the Mtldesignclub. I 💛 our community.

How I work!

My favorite design tool is writing ✍🏿. I love asking Why, and I expect people might do the same when looking at my work. I’ve thus built the habit of documenting my every decision through writing before submitting my work for feedback/review. This method so far has gotten me great mileage in my efforts to demystify design, clearly express and highlight tradeoffs and foster greater alignment with stakeholders.

It’s how I cut through the noise and regress to the mean of wants and needs.
